DO YOU KNOW CENTRAL JAVA?
- BY DIMZ
The province is 32,800.69 km2 in area, approximately a quarter of the total land area of Java. Its population was 32,382,657 at the 2010 Census, making it the third most-populous province in Indonesia after West Java and East Java; the latest official estimate (for January 2014) is 32,779,832.
Central Java is also a cultural concept that includes the Special Region and city of Yogyakarta as well as the Province of Central Java. However, administratively the city and its surrounding regencies have formed a separate special region (equivalent to a province) since Indonesian independence, the area and population of which are not included in the above statistics.
